$10, 000 Raised by Martinborough Concert for Kaikoura

February 16, 2017 February 2017 No Comments

Fiona-PearsThe community of Martinborough came together to support the community of Kaikoura at a fundraising concert at The Village Café on 13 January 2017 and helped to raise $10,000.
“Martinborough certainly came to the party as far a supporting this event is concerned,” says Jazz in Martinborough’s Lee Quayle. “We managed to put together a superb event, with fine food, fantastic music and fabulous Martinborough wines; but only because of the outstanding generosity of the people of Martinborough.”

The $10,000 will be donated to the Mayoral Relief Fund. “The people of Kaikoura have suffered a tremendous natural disaster and we thought it would be great if Jazz in Martinborough could do something, however small, that would contribute in some way towards easing their suffering. And the town came to the party,” says Lee. people bought The tickets were a sell out, raffle tickets and auction items. Businesses and individuals donated goods for the auction, the raffle and the dinner.

The Fiona Pears Trio [Fiona Pears (violin); Ian Tilley (keyboards) and Mike Ferrar (guitar)] provided a “great” musical performance, with many patrons being enthralled and entertained by her own compositions and standards by the likes of Django Reinhardt. The stories behind the tunes, combined with the musical talents of the trio and Fiona’s exuberant personality made for a memorable musical event.

“We also have to acknowledge the outstanding contribution of Bruce Laurence and Chris Petersen and the rest of the team at The Village Café,” adds Lee. “Not only did they provide superb food and service, but they contributed the venue at no cost, and subsidised the delicious food for the event.”

Space precludes us from listing all contributors to this hugely successful event; we know who you are and we appreciate your support. Kaikoura will be better for your contributions. For a full list of our generous sponsors and donors check out our website www.jazzinmartinborough.co.nz
