GOLF CLUB NEWS

April 7, 2014 April 2014, Sports No Comments

The club has been blessed with fine weather for another month; a warning of a storm front but, once again, it came to nothing.
One of the highlights was a wedding party having their bridal pics taken at the club recently; a lovely couple who thanked us with a piece of their wedding cake.
An influx of green fee players during the month have kept the workers on their toes as well as the visitors from as far away as the UK, the USA and Germany not to mention the odd group bookings from over the hill.

Caterer Leonie has been overseas in “cruise” mode and is due back at the end of the month and we wish Club Captain Ro Griffiths a speedy recovery following his knee surgery.
The jug count continues to rise for the Grumpy’s and Ray Lind is obviously having a purple patch at the moment and is the one to beat.

With the success of “bring a friend day” six new members and another potential two have increased the 9 hole numbers. The 18 hole ladies are constantly out in force every week with Sharon Jephson taking the honours a few times as well as Adele Cairns and Thursday club just continues to be one of the most popular golfing days at the club.
The juniors are playing well and have won all three of their pennants matches.

The course is closed on Friday 4 April for the annual St John Charity Tournament and at the time of writing a field of 30 teams of four has already entered.

The Club has for many years had a trophy ‘The Waikfield Bell’. Present members have no knowledge of the background of this trophy or when it was last played for. They would like to hear from anybody who can help them with information about the unusual trophy .
