August 11, 2014 August 2014, Regular Features, Sports No Comments

July was certainly a cold and wet month with frosts and even snow in some areas. It seems the Grumpy’s and Thursday boys were the only ones who ventured out to play.

The 9 hole women have played only two out of the four weeks due to the bad weather and the 18 holers also suffered the same dismal conditions. However a combined 9 and 18 hole competition is forecast for August and it proves that both do get along with each other and club champs are also on the horizon.

Recently18 members went to Australia to play golf. You know the old saying “what happens on tour, stays on tour” so from what I have heard, I believe they all had a very enjoyable time.

I have been a bit sick and while in hospital I caught up with ex club member June Brough; what a pleasure to see such a lovely person.

Coming up is the Bottle-O Lefties / Righties tournament on 17 August. Entries are now being taken so hopefully this will be just as successful as it was last year.

Last but not least the club has won a couple of trophies during the last month. The Marquis Shield team didn’t finish in the top three but won the “wooden spoon” off Masterton who have held it for a considerable number of years.

The club was also awarded the winners of the Wairarapa Teams Stableford Day held in Featherston recently and played in such atrocious weather that play was eventually abandoned after 10 holes. Eketahuna had been the previous winners of this event for a very, very long time.
