Martinborough Netball Club (MNC)

August 11, 2014 August 2014, Sports No Comments

Martinborough netball club_webThe team is competing in the Premier 2 grade Wairarapa Netball Competition this season in Masterton and are currently leading the top of the grade and with the business end coming up we plan to keep it that way. The team has lost only one game (in the grading round) since the netball season began in early May.

There have been some great games throughout the competition, with a mix of experience and some newer players in the team, intense at times but exciting for the players.

Early on we had a few injuries to some of our players team, however the team has been lucky to fill the gaps whilst the injured players are being managed. We have now played against all teams in our grade. In each second round game opposition teams introduce different dynamics so we keep to the very basics, apply those and play to our strengths. Not just netball but any sporting code for that matter.

Tai Pirato (Micro Wine Bar) our netball coach having moved over from Wellington comes with years of netball knowledge & experience. Both as a player (men’s and mixed teams) regional, national level and as part of the NZ Men’s Netball Squad. This heading overseas later this year to compete in a Trans Tasman Netball Test Series against Australia.

Tai is also a National NZ Netball Umpire, umpiring top level netball within the Wellington region and at National Level, and is Co-Founder of Cook Strait Men’s Netball Association based in Wgtn. So with someone of his calibre living in Martinborough, the team and netball club is in good hands.

To our “future silver ferns” Martinborough Junior Netball Team who are also in the middle of their season and enjoying the help of a few players from our team. Wishing them the best season and they too would appreciate your support at their games as well.

Team: Kim Holsted (Captain), Case Teofilo, Tracey Laing, Lisa-Marie Ireland, Sue Brown, Xanita Flutey, Kim Teofilo, Sarah Rixtia, Emma Warrington, Marisa Borlase, Jess Jackson, Tara Calkin and Teata Phillips. Team Umpire: Waimarama Phillips.

Look-out for netball club fundraiser event in November. Reviews/updates of the team games and everything netball are on our Netball Facebook page.

MNC wish to extend a huge thank you to Cotter & Stevens Ltd, Medici Cafe, Richard (Palliser Wines) and James Graham for your support for our team this season and also to the locals, family and friends on the sidelines at our games.
