Community Board Update

October 7, 2014 October 2014 No Comments

It has been nearly a year since the Local Government elections, a third of the way through the triennium and a good time to reflect on the term so far and what lies ahead.

Looking back, I’ve learnt that whilst we may not be able to please everyone, all the time, that doesn’t stop us trying, and it doesn’t stop us feeling disappointed when we don’t succeed. That’s not just your elected representatives but also for the Council team who work tirelessly and sometimes thanklessly to implement Council and Community Board decisions.

So what lies ahead for Martinborough Community Board?
Applications for financial assistance through our new Strategic Grants process closed on Sept 30th. We will be reviewing all the applications, requesting more information where we feel we need it, and finally debating and awarding up to $5,000 of grants at our next Community Board meeting on 3rd November. This is a meeting I’m really looking forward to – a chance to make a real difference to our community and support some of our many community groups and volunteers.

We continue to support the Martinborough Town Hall and Community Centre project and as a team we are immensely proud of the fundraising efforts of our small community. Thank you to all those who have pledged their support, and to those who have organised, or are planning, fundraising activities. With over $1 million raised so far, it is amazing what we, as a small, pro-active community can achieve when we pull together.
Finally I encourage you all to support Mark Hadlow’s MAMIL (Middle Aged Man in Lycra) show at the Town Hall from the 6th to the 8th of November. Tickets are available from Soeur and all proceeds from the gala night on Thursday 6th November go to the Town Hall & Community Centre project.
