December 16, 2014 December 2014, Sports No Comments

After quite a few years reporting for the Club I have decided that it is time to put away the pen and cast my mind back to what has happened.

I have been very lucky that the paper has not been had up for some of the terrible remarks that I have made over the years. It has been all I fun mostly. So thanks that you have not taken things further.

There are quite a few ‘thanks yous’ that have to be made. Firstly to Sue Berger for help in getting my comments to the paper. The Club is so lucky to have such a secretary – she is one of the best, who always makes things the best for the Club.

Next is Mike Beckett the Star’s editor. I have known and worked with Mike for many years. He rings me when the paper is due to ensure that copy always gets in on time.

Thanks to Club members and the public for their comments. When walking down the street it’s nice to hear lovely comments -‘thank you all’.

I would also like to thank for the info I receive from the Ladies. Both the A Hole and 18 Hole lassies always have their results in to the office on time.

A Big Thanks to Greenkeeper Darren O’Dwyer. He is confronted with problems but has come through his tasks brilliantly.
Thanks to the various committees. Bill Crook has done a magnificent job looking after the various matches that are played. He has introduced some new ones that have been well patronised. And Club Finals were played on time.
The House committee do an excellent job. There are rumours about extending the Clubhouse. I am sorry Club Captain, but we are a small country club, we do not need to make extensions to be used three or four times a year. We have a very good Green Fee turnout as it happens.

The Committee in general looks like an ‘Old Boy’s Club’ , isn’t it about time some young ones took some interest in the goings on in the club?

The caterers Leonie and Graeme Stevenson and Tracey do a great job. They risk a lot with the weather, but they have their good days too E.G. tournaments and up to 60 Green Fee players. Club members really look forward to the tasty sandwiches and sausage rolls after their rounds. Yes, and also Graeme’s shorts are always talking point; warm or cold he still has his shorts on.

We have five golf carts with one being donated by Doug Buchanan, thanks Doug.

I would like at this stage to give Bill Jones a Big Big Thanks. He has put through sixty seven youngsters , all going with great talent. I have given Bill lots of bouquets but he has deserved them.

Scotty’s Meats is the final thanks. His raffle and golf prizes look absolutely magnificent . A lot of work goes into making the meat look good and he does it so well.

Thanks a lot everyone, it has been a bit of a chore at times, but it has been a pleasure. And thanks to all who helped when I had my own problems and was in hospital for some time.

A very special thanks to Ngaire, who has been my absolute Guardian Angel. She’s been wonderful, the one who has kept me here.

Good Luck, good golfing, Goodbye. Merry Christmas to all. Kevin Campbell.
Kevin has been a contributor with his golf column from the start of the current Star. Always obliging, Kevin has been a pleasure to work with.

His chatty columns have always been light hearted and informative, feedback has been that they are read equally by golfers and non golfers alike. Doubtless many current players’ initial interest in the game was sparked by Kevin’s writings.

Needless to say, your column will be greatly missed. Thanks Kev.
