Another Afternoon of Gorgeous Opera

April 20, 2015 April 2015 No Comments

Sunday May 10, 3pm – 5pm.
“I missed the School of Music Concert last year. Are they coming back by any chance”? “Those young singers were wonderful. It would be lovely to hear them again”? “When are you having another concert? I just loved those young singers”… Well; maybe the New Zealand School of Music Classical Voice would be interested in another fundraising concert. And indeed they are!

This should not be a surprise because the performing arts generally are starved of funding let alone the institutions providing tuition and training. On Sunday May 10th from 3pm – 5pm, students of classical voice will bring us another afternoon of gorgeous opera at The Cabbage Tree Vineyard.

The students will be from years three and four. A bonus is that unlike other student concerts, the audience will again be treated to performances from their tutors. Margaret Medlyn, Richard Greager and Lisa Harper-Brown will all sing. Margaret Medlyn is the Head of Classical Voice while Richard Greager and Lisa Harper-Brown are Senior Lecturers. Some of you will have heard Lisa-Harper Brown sing the role of Donna Anna in the New Zealand Opera Company production of Don Giovanni last year in which she “…gave a forceful performance displaying an extraordinary rich voice imbued with strong emotional dimensions.” NBR Review, September 2014.
This concert will be another musical and operatic treat. Accompanist is Mark Dorrell.
