The Martinborough Fairs began as a three day Bush Carnival in February 1973 to raise money for a replacement ambulance. The amount required was four thousand dollars (2017 = $49,164), the carnival raised six thousand ($73,747). The motto of the Martinborough Ambulance Service was ‘For faith in service of mankind’.

Four years later Bill Fetch took up the idea of Greytown Rotary holding a two day fair on the first Saturday of February and March. These were held in Soldier’s Square and attracted thirty five stall holders. And so the Martinborough Fairs began. … Continue Reading

Martinborough Library first meeting of the Friends will be held on Wednesday 12 April at 5pm in the library.  Thank you to everyone who has registered an interest in joining.  This meeting is to discuss where we are going as a group and to get the Trust started.  We need two trustees so come prepared!  Meanwhile the fundraising is going strong. 
Our book bags are selling well – $4 each for home sewn fabric bags – what a bargain.  We have some staunch bag sewers who volunteer time, electricity and materials and who need a big round of applause.   They also need more cloth so please do a bit of de-cluttering and find some material for us.  Thanks so much.  I am now sewing lavender bags to order ($3 each), please let me know if you want some.  … Continue Reading

Homeowners are being warned not to fall into the trap of using anyone who does not hold a current authorisation to conduct plumbing, gasfitting or drainlaying work.
 
The Auckland District Court, Vinod Maniam, was sentenced to a $2,500 fine for carrying out restricted plumbing work without a current authorisation.
 
Sanitary plumbing, gasfitting and drainlaying are regulated industries in New Zealand, and it is illegal to do this restricted work unless authorised by the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board (PGDB). 
 
The matter was reported to the PGDB by the Auckland City Council.  It was discovered Mr Maniam submitted false information to the council suggesting he held a current practising licence when he undertook sanitary plumbing work converting a garage into a beauty salon.  He has never qualified as a registered plumber and has never held a licence. … Continue Reading
