Community Board update

April 18, 2016 April 2016, Regular Features No Comments

Firstly I would like to congratulate South Wairarapa District Council on the Greytown and Martinborough wastewater consents, these have been approved with 35 year terms. Not the most glamorous aspect of local government but an essential service and a huge piece of work; well done to all involved.

It is also good to see some development happening in the SWDC ward with the Featherston Square project underway and work going ahead behind the scenes on the Waihinga Centre, with a July start date hoped for.
I recently attended a meeting with members of the Local Government Commission and the chair of Greytown Community Board to discuss the future delivery of Local Government functions in the Wairarapa. It is great to see these discussions happening early in the process with a number of options on the table.

Maintaining and improving the transport network across the Greater Wellington and Wairarapa region was discussed at length as well as the need to ensure that decisions are being made at the right level of local government, by those closest to the issue at hand.
Finally for those who take an interest in our meetings our next meeting will be on 11th April 2016 in the SWDC Council Chambers from 6.30pm. As well as the usual business we will be working through grant applications and awarding funding, one of the most enjoyable aspects of our role.
