Golf-club-newsThe recent nation wide promotion “She loves Golf Campaign” has provided an unexpected bonus, a number of men  and families also expressed an interest and have joined the Club.
Martinborough was one of the first Clubs to embrace the nine hole membership concept and over recent years with the highly successful Bring a friend day the numbers have steadily increased to the current membership number of 57. (40 Women and 17 Men).

If you are keen or want to find out more info on our Club, please call in or go onto our website www.martinboroughgolfclub.co.nz  Coaching is available by All Teed Up on a Thursday morning at the Club or at other times by arrangement with Joel or Shaun from All Teed Up.
We are delighted that  after a long sabbatical that Martinborough has enough interest and commitment from players to enter a Mens Intercub team in the Wellington Comp. We have been slotted into Division 7 Linnell Cup and our first game is at home against Otaki. The Women have also rejoined the Tilson Salver Draw for weekend players in the Wairarapa Interclub Competition taking our inter club commitments to 2 teams for Mens (Linnell and Marquis Shield)  5 Womens ( Combined Lansdowne, Silver and Bronze Pennants, Riverside and Tilson Salver) and  one team for 9 hole Interclub.

In early January, the annual Golf Junior Open  was held in glorious conditions and the small field from five different clubs enjoyed a great day of golf. The organisers were delighted to see the junior  players of our Club that Colin Wibley-Smith has been coaching (nine of them) compete for the inaugural Red Tee Encouragement award. A big thank you goes to Jeff Barber from Property Brokers who once again sponsored the event and particularly to those members who provided additional sponsorship, your generosity assists greatly with the  ongoing development of our successful Junior programme under the watchful eye of Colin.
Special thanks to Bill and Mavis Jones – particularly Mavis who ran the catering for the day. Bill started the event in 2009 with the support of the then Club Captain Neil Smith who also donated the trophies. We really hope the event continues to run in honour of the late  Neil Smith and the ongoing passion Bill has for encouraging the next generation of golfers.
 The winners were:
Boys U16 Gross – Paxton Jones (Shandon) Gross 76
Boys U16 Nett – Shane Colton (MBA) Nett 69
