Greg, a 65 year old retired Corporate Investment Manager, who has been living in Martinborough with his wife Sue for the last 13 years, has joined the list of candidates for the Martinborough Ward.
“I see a game changer in front of us all.” says Greg. “Whether we agree or disagree with it, the amalgamation of the three Wairarapa Councils is highly likely in two years time. This will have a massive impact on the government of South Wairarapa in general and on Martinborough in particular.”

Greg continues “I for one, am very concerned about the way in which the amalgamated assets of the future entity will be managed and even more concerned about the impact of the amalgamation of debt on our local ratepayers.

Also there is the issue of what future services we can expect to receive from the current Council office once management functions shift to Masterton.

I also strongly believe that the Martinborough Community Board will need to be given greater delegated authority and with that will come greater responsibility.

I want to see the preparation for this shift thoroughly managed before the event occurs.”
“My background is in managing assets on a large scale. I have been Chief Investment Officer for an Australasian investment fund of A$11 billion. My close observations of corporate amalgamations provides me with an understanding of the issues that Councillors will face in their role as Trustees for the local community,” says Greg.

Greg adds “I have also had the benefit of having served the Property Council of New Zealand as its President for three years. This role, in leading a large membership based organisation, also provides the type of experience that should be beneficial at Council level.”
