Martinborough Community Board Update

May 9, 2017 May 2017 No Comments

There is a lot going on at the moment, Local Government can seem boring but if there was ever a time to get involved this is it:
Proposed Wairarapa District Council
This proposal is not a done deal and it is vitally important that all Wairarapa residents have their say. The final date for submissions is the 3rd May. You can find out more at www.lgc.govt.nz or view hard copies at the library or council offices. If you have an opinion make sure your voice is heard and make a submission, whatever happens next will have a long lasting effect on Martinborough and the Wairarapa for years to come.

Grant Applications
We take grant applications twice a year, the current round will be considered at our meeting on the 29th May. We can accept applications up until Friday 12th May and after that in exceptional cirucmstances. Grant application forms can be found at www.swdc.govt.nz/MCB.
SWDC Annual Plan
The Council has published its Annual Plan Consultation Document, available on the website or from the library or SWDC office. Please take the opportunity to have a look and provide Council with feedback. Your Community Board will be submitting on a number of areas including the Martinborough Pool, Footpaths, Rubbish Collection and the Ultra Fast Broadband rollout. If there is something you want Council to set aside funds for this is your chance. As someone once told me “if you don’t ask, you don’t get”.
ANZAC Day and The Martinborough Memorial
Once again it was wonderful to see such a big turnout for the ANZAC Dawn Parade. Martinborough Community Board would like to thank all of those who took part, our Officiating Minister Rev. Sam Bate, Parade Marshall Daniel Hawkins and the Martinborough RSA. We would also like to thank the Martinborough Fire Brigade for hosting our community after the Ceremony.
We have received feedback about the current condition of the Memorial in the centre of the Square. We are aware that repairs are needed and have been working with Council to have the Memorial and Plinth repaired for some months now. Whilst we had hoped repairs would be complete by ANZAC day this year we have been assured that it will be fully repaired before our next ANZAC day ceremony.
Considine Park – Expressions of Interest
We are re-establishing the Considine Park committee and are seeking expressions of interest from members of the community to ensure broad representation. If you would like to find our more or wish to be involved Please email our Committee Secretary Suzanne Clark: suzanne.clark@swdc.govt.nz.
(As I lease the Holiday Park land in Considine Park I have declared a conflict of interest and will not be involved in the establishment of the Committee.)
