Martinborough Community Choir Update

April 11, 2017 April 2017 No Comments

Martinborough-Community-Choir The choir is now in its 5th year, and we’re delighted that Mark Dorrell has just agreed to be our official choir Patron.
Mark has worked extensively in musical theatre productions at the Royal National Theatre and in London’s West End.

Since coming to live in NZ, Mark has worked with the Orpheus Choir, NZ Opera, at Toi Whakaari, and he is currently the accompanying co-ordinator and vocal coach at the NZ School of Music.
Mark has been over several times over the past couple of years, to guest lead and inspire the choir, most recently on March 21.
Mark enjoys working with our choir and has agreed to come back twice more this year, so we feel very fortunate!

Our first concert for the year, featuring songs about food and drink, is planned for Tuesday, July 18; and a month later, on Tuesday eve, August 15 we’re delighted that Tony Backhouse – NZ’s leading Gospel song leader – has agreed to lead a Gospel workshop for the choir, and anyone else who is interested in coming along.
This year we’ll again be singing a short concert as part of the Jazz In Martinborough festival, on September 3.

Our final event planned for 2017 will be our big 5th birthday celebration end-of-year concert at St. Andrew’s, in early December.
If anyone who enjoys group singing would like to come and join us, we practice every Tuesday evening at the First Church Hall in Weld St.
There are no auditions, and although music reading would be an advantage, it’s not essential.
