MARTINBOROUGH GOLF

April 11, 2017 April 2017, Sports No Comments

Martinborough-Golf-ClubCongratulations to Pip Kirk winning the prestigious Carterton Womens Open Day Cup recently shooting an Gross 80, five shots clear of 2nd place getter Sereana Phillipps. Pip also had a stunning drive on number 11 to pick up the longest drive in 1st Division , a wedge into the green was all she needed, the rest of us requiring a 3 wood and a wedge! In fact the Martinborough women did really well with several being called up to the Prize table.

The Club hosted the Wellington Womens 36 Hole Strokeplay (formerly Business Womens and Students Tournament) mid March and though only four of our gals played they did very well. The round of the day went to Sandra Petersen who shot a Gross 75 in the morning. Congratulations Sandra,14 pars a birdie on Bull Hill !.
Though numbers were slightly down on last year the field was very strong with a number of up and coming players from the Wellington region playing. The overall winner was Wendy Rhodes from Carterton who is representing Wellington in the Masters in a couple of weeks.  All the very best to her.
On Sunday was the annual contest for the Julie Murphy Jug – Wellington vs Wairarapa – what a close encounter it was. Wairarapa won 4.5/3.5 – well done to Anita Karaitiana (Mahunga), Wendy Rhodes (Carterton), Sereana Phillipps (Masterton), and Kris Chamberlain who all had wins and Cheycoda Cocks (Mahunga) who managed a half.
A number of the women are off around the country playing in tournaments in Christchurch, Marlborough and in the Rangitikei. Good luck to all of you.

The Nine holers continue to have a good number competing each Wednesday, with coaching with Joel from All teed Up commencing this month. Their inter club team are enjoying playing on other courses in the Wellington region in this format. They have played 5 rounds with another six remaining.

The Thursday Club held their first tournament of the year  last week with a very large turn out and the leg of lamb the other half  was fortunate to win was tender and succulent.

At this stage of Competition the Mens Inter club team have now had 4 wins from 4  and have a healthy lead on the other teams in their Division.

The Club has a number of tournaments coming up  commencing with the annual St Johns Wairarapa Charity Golf Tournament. Its on Friday 7th April at the Club. Format 4 person Teams Ambrose (Men and/or Women) $100 per Team . Limited to 36 Teams. Confirmation registration from 10:30am Shotgun Start 11:00am Prize Giving & Auction of Great Prizes to follow.
