The greens are improving all the time.  It is a long process but already the majority of the grass is brown top.  Richard, our Greenkeeper, has worked really hard to get rid of disease and quell the poa grass.  Irrigation systems are being upgraded and the new distance markers on the fairways look great. With all these improvements, and help from the summer run, members’ handicaps have certainly started to tumble!

The ladies now have so many Silver players for Interclub that the other divisions are struggling for players. Interclub competitions have started across the board, with the men involved in the Marquis Shield, the ladies in the Wairarapa Landsdowne Trophy team, two combined teams with Featherston and Mahunga Golf Clubs in the Tilson Salver and the 9 Hole ladies playing in the Wellington 9 Hole Interclub competition.

The Club had a great turnout of members for both the Ladies Opening Day on Wednesday 3 February and the Club Opening Day tournament on Sunday 7 February. Both days were lots of fun with the ladies playing foursomes with most pairings being a 9 Hole with an 18 Hole member, and the club day being a 1,2,3 Best Ball Stableford competition.

Twilight golf has started up again on Friday nights. Good numbers have been along for 10 holes of fun competition throughout February. Contact Ju Allen if you are interested in playing.
The highlight for March will be Martinboroughs’ hosting on the 2016 New Zealand Women’s Autumn Foursomes from Tuesday 22 to Thursday 24 March. This is a national event sanctioned by NZ Golf. A full field of 64 pairs (128 players) are coming from all over New Zealand and Australia to compete in this fantastic tournament that is extremely popular every year within the women’s amateur calendar. A number of our club members will be taking part and are regulars in the event. The tournament includes a cocktail evening on the Monday night and dinner on the final night.

A number of local sponsors are generously supporting the event. There are many volunteers required to run an event of this calibre, so if you would like to help please contact Jenny Boyne. Remember that the Martinborough Pro-Am will feature on Sky Sport and TV3 when Holden Golf World goes back on air this month. Look out for it!

Martinborough Golf Club has tumbled down

The demolition of the Martinborough Golf Club is complete.
