MARTINBOROUGH GOLF REPORT

September 13, 2017 September 2017 No Comments

The Wairarapa Womens Interclub Competitions Riverside Cup and Tilson Salver have had more postponements this season than the bar has been open on a Wednesday. In saying that the teams have enjoyed the Matchplay format and the hospitality received from the other Wairarapa host clubs. We finished mid pack. Congrats to Eketahuna for winning the Riverside Cup and to Masterton for winning the Tilson Salver.

The Order of Merit continues to thrive and with the results from the 13th August (Round Three) to hand there was a change of guard.  Malcolm Wood was unable to retain the honcho status due to being in Australia allowing Capt Bill Crook the opportunity to slither his way into Number One slot, Malcolm bumped to 2nd, No change to 3rd being held by Chris Ranish. Jumping from 20th to 4th is Ro Griffith. dropping a place Phil Eberlein goes from 4th to 5th, while Postie Derek Stephen drops form 5th to 6th.
Next round is Sunday 10th September.
The on course sponsorship signs are now in place, which has provided valuable funds into the Club coffers.  We would appreciate members giving preference to these businesses when making purchases.
Membership is now almost 430, and visitor numbers have also been up on recent years as the word gets around about our improving course condition & welcoming atmosphere.
Martinborough is now truly a hotspot for weekend visitors and holidaymakers all looking for great memorable experiences, which we can be part of and hopefully at the forefront of their activities.
The Committee is working on a number of initiatives to allow and promote improvements throughout the course, which includes renovating the greens commencing with the 10th and harvesting of mature woodlots and a replanting programme for these areas.
Twenty locals gals have accepted the invitation from the Womens Captain of Royal Wellington GC Adrienne Girdlestone to play at Heretaunga on the 6th September, they will be playing a stableford format competing for the prestigious Lady Stout Cup.
The popular Trust House Bottle O Lefties and Righties Tournament recently was abandoned due to yet more rain. There is discussion taking place to schedule the Tournament for Saturday with the reserve day being Sunday.
Not going to Windross to see Lydia and Co, but still want to watch some good golf up close, there is the Mens 72/36 Hole Tournament coming up at the end of September right here in Martinborough on Saturday 30th September and Sunday 1st October.
