Martinborough Ladies Hockey Club News

September 21, 2016 September 2016, Sports No Comments

Martinborough-Ladies-HockeyThe Martinborough Ladies Hockey Club has had another great season. After completing a round of grading games early in the season, the team was unfortunate to just miss out on being promoted to the Women’s 2 grade, losing a promotion/relegation game in extra time against St Matthews 2nd X1. The team did well however to make it to the Women’s 3 grade final for the second year in a row.

Unfortunately Martinborough were unable to defend the trophy that we won last year. Playing Wairarapa College 2nd XI in the final was a good challenge, with the final score 2-1 to the college girls. Martinborough’s only goal in the final was pretty spectacular, scored by Heather Butler, who had the added pressure of playing against both of her daughters!

Thank-you to all those who supported the club by buying raffle tickets in our All Blacks v Australia rugby test tickets raffle. The raffle was expertly drawn by the Mayor and won by Clare Miller. Thanks to Crawford Carrying Co for donating the rugby tickets.
The club was lucky to receive fantastic sponsorship this year from E10 Pukemanu Bar & Eatery. With this sponsorship the club was able to purchase a new set of team shirts, which we have had a lot of positive comments about; and assist with Wairarapa Hockey affiliation fees.
The girls are now looking forward to another infamous end of season wind-up and prize-giving , and already to the 2017 season.
