new-pharmacy-opensWairarapa District Health Board Chief Executive Officer Adri Isbister cut the ribbon to mark the official opening of the new Medical Centre pharmacy. Welcoming the guests Ruamahunga Trust Chairman , Ro Griffith, said “we have been planning for ten years to have a pharmacy as part of an integrated health centre”. He emphasised how the medical centre is owned by the people of Martinborough and surrounding district “a community facility managed by the Ruamahunga trust”.

Ro, acknowledged the Martinborough Lions from who the trust lease “at a moderate rental” the land the centre is built on. The building contractors, Holmes Construction, were given a certificate of appreciation for the way they worked in with the needs of the doctors and nurses during the construction.
He also made a special thanks to Dr. Steve, Pam, nurses and staff for they way they put up with three to four months of dust and noise. Also acknowledged were those supported by putting money into the facility.
Outgoing Mayor, Adrienne Staples said; “I’m absolutely delighted to be part of the council of a town which has always got off it’s bottom and done things for itself. This pharmacy being a prime example”.
Adrienne introduced the pharmacy owners Karen and Phil Crisp and their son Tom who had come up from Dunedin to be part of the celebration. In replying Karen said how excited about the new pharmacy and their being the town’s pharmacists .
While planning the additions to accommodate the pharmacy the Trust took the opportunity to also add to and improve the medical facilities. These include extra consulting rooms for visiting medical practitioners which alleviates the necessity to go out of town for many special treatments. Prior to the pharmacy opening ceremony those present were invited to be taken around and inspect theses additions.
Currently there are regular visits by an optician,
