Popin to Playcentre

April 11, 2017 April 2017 No Comments

Popin-to-play-centrePreschoolers and their caregivers were invited to Martinborough Playcentre to get messy, get wet and be creative with found objects as part of Playcentre Week 2017, held from March 5 to 11. The usual weekly sessions were themed Messy Monday, Wet Wednesday and Trash is Treasure Thursday and lots of fun was had by all who attended.
Playcentre Awareness Week is celebrated each year to promote the value of parent-led early education for children.  Playcentre gives children the opportunity to explore their environment and choose their own activities, with their parent or caregiver. Connecting children, families and their communities is something Playcentres have been doing forover75 years, and the week was an opportunity to celebrate and focus on that connection.

“The magic that happens at Playcentre is that not only are the children having a great time and learning through their play, but parents are also learning – about their child, about parenting, and finding a supportive community and new friendships,” Nicola Walker, Mid Canterbury Playcentre Association.

Martinborough Playcentre has been a hive of activity over the past six months. New child height toilets and wash basins have been installed, a new boundary fence has been built (thanks to the Martinborough Plunket Group for organising this) and fresh bark was delivered for the playground and the children are finding many creative ways to spread it.
Funding has recently been approved for a new kitchen and the sand in the sandpit is due to be refreshed. If you would like some of the existing sand and are happy to come and collect it, please email #### and advise of how much you’re after. If enough interest, we will coordinate a day for all to come and clear the sandpit.

Martinborough Playcentre welcomes you to come and visit our centre: Martinborough Playcentre. Your local Playcentre in the South Wairarapa. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 9am – 12noon. 38 Venice Street, Martinborough. Ph: 3069068 Email: Martinborough
