10 Thousand Reasons To Be Happy

Jazz in Martinborough 2012 raised $10 000 for the restoration and rehabilitation of the Martinborough Town Hall.

“The festival was a stunning success at every level,” says Festival Publicist Lee Quayle. “The jazz was great, the town was busy and buzzing and we helped raise a large sum of money for the town hall.”

The amount is nearly twice what was raised at last year’s inaugural festival.  “This is a very pleasing result,” says Festival Producer Ian Cresswell. “The festival team worked harder for longer and has produced a better outcome,” he adds.

Organisers are keen to make it clear that the festival could not have gone ahead without the help of the community. “Support from the community continues to be generous and widespread,” says Ian. The list of sponsors and supporters includes about 100 individuals and businesses who helped with ticket sales, tee shirts, printing and publicity, donations to the charity auction and in heaps of other ways.

“There were 28 jazz performances during the weekend, slightly up on last year,” says Festival Music Director Ted Preston. “These included performances at the town hall, the First Church, Circus, Village Café and Medici, amongst others; 9 venues in all,” says Ted. “The town was busier than usual for late August and one patron described the vibe around town most aptly when she said the town was “glowing”.

“It is safe to say that Jazz in Martinborough is now an established event of the Martinborough calendar,” says Lee Quayle.
