2015 Martinborough Golf Pro-Am finishes in exciting Play-off

Martinborough-Proam-golfOn Tuesday 3 February, 37 teams of three amateur golfers each played with a professional in the hotly contested Spark Business Pro-Am at Martinborough Golf Club.

The victorious professional was Rotorua-based Frenchman, Victor Janin who had to battle Taupo’s Troy Ropiha in an exciting two hole play-off, surrounded by spectators’ on the Par 3 8th hole. The first time down the play-off hole saw both players score par, but a bogey from Ropiha the second time around gave the victory to Janin. Both players shot 8-under 64 in their earlier round.

Auckland-based professional, Brad Heaven was third with a 6-under 66. The tournament also featured professional golfers Richard Lee, Grant Moorhead, Douglas Holloway, Vikrant Chandra, Shaun Jones, Sam An, former and current Masterton professionals Jamie McIsaac and Shaun Hewitt, and past South African Open winner Charlie Bolling.
The amateur team results: 1st (winning three rounds of golf at Cape Kidnappers and accommodation at Wine Country Lodge, Havelock North) were Nga Waka Vineyard on a count back with 99 Stableford points; 2nd (receiving 3 Spark smart Phones (which were able to be exchanged for a dozen Ata Rangi Pinot Noir!)) the Spark Business team on 99; 3rd (three hour fishing trip in Nautilus on Lake Taupo for four people provided by White Strike Charters) Scotty’s Meats also on 99; 4th (two night’s accommodation at McLeod’s Bach, Taupo for three couples plus three rounds of golf at Taupo Centennial or Tahara Course) Sereana Phillips team 96; 5th (lunch for three at Wharekahau) Sharpies 95 on count back; 6th (Three rounds of golf at Royal Wellington plus $100 food and bar voucher) Hydroflow 95; 7th (All Teed Up vouchers ($100 each)) Fagan Motors 95; 8th (Nine bottles of NgaWaka premium Pinot Noir) BNZ 95; 9th (Lunch and wine for three couples at Poppies) Graham Howie team 94; 10th (Three meal vouchers at Martinborough Hotel) Pain & Kershaw team 93; 11th (Meal for three at the Tin Hut) Terry Blacktop team 92 on count back; 12th (Meal and film for three at Circus) Poppies team 92. The Titleist Solo Ball Challenge was won by the Sereana Phillips team. Nearest the Pins: No. 6 Steve Blucher, No. 8 Bob Hill, No. 12 Caleb Everson, No. 16 Ian Stewart.

Organisers were extremely happy with how the event went. Geoff Smart of the NZPGA was very complimentary and said that there is nothing like a tournament at a country club and the pros really enjoyed the event. The main sponsor, Spark Business was very happy with the day and will support the event again next year, which is a real triumph.
