Library News

It’s been a tragic month for me – with one of my favourite authors passing on and knowing there will be no more Wee free men or Unseen university escapades.  Like him or not Terry Pratchett was a global legend and has left a huge legacy.  We have most of his books in the library and I am happy to give you a guided tour around them.

On a more positive note, we have a great competition coming up for 8 to 15 year olds.  It starts now and involves a prize of $50 (kindly donated by a Martinborough resident with an interest in encouraging literacy).  Come and see a librarian and watch for posters – with luck I will have got around to getting them done before this is published!

Our book display focus has been quite serious this last month, with Mr Pratchett and ANZAC day so this month we are going to celebrate:
Monday 11 May International eat what you want day.  (We may even have some yummy snacks on hand)
Friday 15 May International day of families (Want to see lots of families in that day)
Tuesday 28 May Amnesty International Day (taking full advantage of the word ‘Amnesty’, we will be offering an Amnesty on book overdue fines that day)

To finish off, some new books just in: One of us (the story of Anders Breivk and the massacre in Norway; the new Lesley Pearse and Harlan Coben; Guantanamo diary (non-fiction horrifying by compelling); Escape from Davao (non-fiction WW2 escape from Japanese prison camp) and many more too numerous to mention.  Also new magazines added to the collection: Wilderness ; Fishing world; Australian Women’s weekly and Frankie.  Must go and do some work now.
