A Big Thank You from the Martinborough

November 6, 2020 November 2020 No Comments

A big thanks  to everyone who visited the tea shop at the Community Market in the Town Hall over Labour Weekend.   We raised over $1000 to support the museum’s work.   Daphne Geisler, who organised the Market, donated the vintage china teacups we used and were able to sell as well.  Surprisingly, there were still lots of people who are keenly collecting teacups rather than trying to give them away-  generally younger women!

The raffle of premium local wines and olive oils was won by Roger Gaskell.

We Are Interested in Your Family History

We recently received a family history from Father David Moore, sm whose great grandparents moved to the area 1910.   If you are a long term Martinborough resident you might remember David and his sisters Diane, Susan and Prudence.

As well as a richly illustrated booklet on the family there was a separate one called “At The Bach” about goods times at their holiday house at Whangaimoana Beach.

We are thrilled to have this sort of material for our collection.  It provides an insight into the community in the past and how people lived then, as well as creating a vivid record of local residents.

We are very keen to build up this side of our collection, so if you have a spare copy of your family’s story sitting in a drawer we’d love to hold one in the museum for visitors and social history and genealogy researchers.

New museum hours  (open longer on Sunday)

Saturdays 11.30-3.30, Sundays 10.30-2.30
