A Labyrinth opportunity
On 10th and 11th April, First Church Martinborough is hosting an opportunity for people to walk an ancient archetypal symbol called a Labyrinth.
Labyrinths combine the image of a circle with the image of a spiral. The single pathway leads to the centre and then back out again retracing the same path. It symbolises a journey to a predetermined destination, our journey through life; from birth, to spiritual awakening and to death.
Labyrinth represents wholeness, healing, inclusiveness and community, they have long been used for purposes of prayer, meditation, contemplation and reflection, The Labyrinth provides a sacred space; a quiet, safe place for the intuitive, symbolic mind to come forth and be more present. It invites us, the walker to set aside our cares and concerns, it can help us to find our inner peace, manage stress, make decisions, and heal physically, emotionally and spiritually.
It welcomes those of all faith traditions and those with no tradition at all.
Walking a Labyrinth becomes a metaphor for our spiritual journey. As we physically walk to the centre of the pattern, we are symbolically moving to our own centres and the Divine source of our intuition and strength. At its most basic level, the Labyrinth is a journey to the centre of our deepest self and back out again into the world with a broadened understanding of who we are. Life is a scared journey; it’s about growth, change, discovery, movement and transformation. There is no right or wrong way to walk a Labyrinth, each walk is unique for each person.
‘To walk the labyrinth is a pilgrimage to discover something about ourselves. The destination is not important, the journey is’
