Book Club exchange box

April 12, 2021 April 2021 No Comments

A new installation on the Lions Club  building is the result of several  months work by a local book club in Martinborough.  Current organiser Sue Darling explained a little of the background of the group: ” The Book group  began over ten  years ago when Ineke Kershaw contacted about a dozen friends and invited them to form a Book Group. Within a month we were signed up to the Book Discussion Scheme in Christchurch and began receiving our monthly read. Each December we explore the Scheme’s catalogue and send our  list of preferred reading for the year. The idea of providing a Book Exchange Box developed quite recently, with all members contributing to the costs of the materials.”

How are you hoping it will be used?

“We’re offering the community the chance to share books that they have enjoyed reading, and maybe find something interesting in the box to take home. Childrens books are also welcome” says Sue.

The Box was made by Tim Maling at the Menz Shed, who generously donated his time and expertise.

Michael and Philippa Arapoff and Max Stevens kindly offered their skills to erect it, and Philippa Arapoff  neatly wrote the words.

Was it difficult to find a place to put it?

“The Book Group spent a considerable amount of time finding the right spot. We wanted it to be  easily visible to pedestrian traffic, close to the Square, and protected from the rain.

We were delighted when the Martinborough Lions Club gave us permission to use the façade of their Club rooms.”
