BUSY NIGHTS AT MARTINBOROUGH BOWLING CLUB

February 9, 2021 February 2021 No Comments

Thursday night and it seems like half of Martinborough is at the bowling club. It’s twilight bowls and many of our townspeople assemble to participate in a friendly competition throughout the summer – there was a three week adjournment over Christmas and New Year.

Players; good, average, but mostly novices, form teams of three to compete against each other in a 1 hour contest each week. Such is the growing popularity of the competition, the Club had to introduce a two tier draw this summer.  One draw starts at 5.15pm and the second at 6.30.

It is a great way to get some not so stressful exercise and meet a variety of locals who range from young vineyard workers to active retirees. Repartee abounds during play and laughter on the lawns and in the clubhouse during refreshments is a common occurrence.

You are invited to come and see for yourself on any Thursday evening.  There are always members who will gladly show you around. Relax and enjoy the cameraderie.  Who knows; you might even get an urge to sign up for next summer.

NEXT MONTH: Martinborough bowlers play with distinction at regional and national level.
