Caregiving Carries On
Every morning and every evening around the town there’s a group of essential workers visiting homes to help people with their daily routines. It might be showering, dressing, putting to bed or giving medication. Obviously this service couldn’t stop just because there was a pandemic threatening.
Yvonne Sutherland is one of the people who does this job. “Part of our role is to create a pleasant atmosphere so clients are cheered up by our visit. This became even more important during lockdown when the restrictions meant we often became our clients’ only visitors”
“At first I think caregivers were a bit anxious about the virus but we always have to be very careful with hygiene in our work so it wasn’t so very different.
We were just happy to be able to continue supporting people in their own homes.”
