MENTAL HEALTH RELATIONSHIP ISSUES BROUGHT ON BY COVID-19:

April 12, 2021 April 2021 Comments Off on MENTAL HEALTH RELATIONSHIP ISSUES BROUGHT ON BY COVID-19:

The Mental Health professionals are telling us that Covid-19 has put a lot of stress on relationships in every form.

Bereavement, isolation, loss of income and fear are triggering mental health conditions or exacerbating existing ones. Many people may be facing increased levels of alcohol and drug use, insomnia, and anxiety.  Marriages that have been healthy in the past, and probably will be in the future, are now becoming a little shaky, with the extra problems and decision making brought about by the pandemic.

The stresses of having children away from school – but not from school responsibilities – and the financial tension caused by households suddenly losing some of their income can push couples over the brink. Added to all that is the fear of members of the family falling ill, disagreements about what constitutes social isolation and uncertainty about how long this strange new routine will last.  … Continue Reading

SOUTH WAIRARAPA REBUS CLUB

April 12, 2021 April 2021 Comments Off on SOUTH WAIRARAPA REBUS CLUB

South Wairarapa Rebus Club has held its AGM, electing a committee with members from all of our constituent SW towns. The President is Perry Cameron from Featherston, Secretary is Kay Paget from Greytown, Treasurer Ken Hyde is from Carterton, committee members come from Greytown, Carterton and Martinborough.

Our guest speaker in March was Mate Higginson, Martinborough’s historian, a fifth generation local, married for over 60 years to a third generation local, still living in the Cologne Street house they moved into as newlyweds. He gave us a rare feast of the early history of Martinborough and the South Wairarapa, so vivid it seemed he must have arrived here on foot round the coast in 1844 with Mr Bidwill himself, whose run was on the west side of the Ruamahanga, or Mr Weld and partners on the east side.  … Continue Reading

April 12, 2021 April 2021 Comments Off on NZ RED CROSS STEET APPEAL: IT IS ABOUT HELPING EACH OTHER

What did NZ Red Cross Appeal mean to me?

Sadly, the funds that NZ Red Cross receives from the Government are not enough. They fund specific services … and that is why the Street Appeal is so vital whether people contribute  a little or a lot.   Giving money or time (which one more valuable, right?) are also vital for the Red Cross to achieve its goals.  Because we know a crisis can happen to anyone, at any time.  And helping each other is what community is all about.  … Continue Reading

Golf pro-am success _ without clubhouse

By Karen Stephens A record field of 172 players, including 43 professionals from New Zealand and Australia, battled light winds, warm temperatures and even light early-morning fog at Martinborough golf’s 2024 CER Electrical and Holmes Construction pro-am on February 1. At least that was the range of excuses for some …
