ENJOYING CONVERSATIONS

enjoying-conversations 120 people enjoyed the annual Conversations with Winemakers series held over three July evenings.  Organised by Wines from Martinborough and held at The Village Cafe, ”the idea was to introduce locals and visitors to Martinborough wines, in an informal setting with good food, excellent company and relaxed winemakers sharing their enthusiasm and expertise,” said organiser Katherine Jacobs (Big Sky Wines).  Here, John Douglas (right, Te Hera Wines) and Carl Fraser (left, Murdoch James Estate) share their thoughts on Pinot Noir, the village’s flagship wine.

Martinborough Golf Club has a national champion amongst our members! Congratulations to Leonie Wilde who is the winner of the Sue Bunt Salver, NZ Golf’s 9-Hole Women Home Links Competition. This is a Nett competition, whereby the best two of three Nett scores from nominated days are added together and compared to other scores from across the country – approximately 1300 members from over 100 clubs participated in the competition. Leonie’s combined Nett score submitted for the two rounds was 59, a whooping 13.6 below her handicap, and good enough to beat hundreds of other entrants. Leonie will be presented with the national trophy by the Wellington District Association, which she will hold for the year, and prizes from the event sponsor Srixon. We’ll let you know what goodies she receives. Well done Leonie! … Continue Reading

Cell phones in cars

The two people in the other car, which was extensively damaged, suffered whiplash. To add to his woes he lost his licence after being charged with careless driving causing an accident.

People using their cell phone claim that they are not distracted from their driving. However recently released results of tests prove that they, unwittingly, are. … Continue Reading

Mix-and-MatchMartinborough wines are being packed up onto a huge truck, moving to Wellington, and morphing into the Match Wine bar for the Wellington on a Plate food festival.

“Match Wine Bar is all about the delights of matching good wine and good food, and raising awareness of the region’s fine wines,” says organising group chair Margaret Hanson (The Elder Pinot). Nothing could be more pop-up than The Nation ‘transformer truck’, cleverly designed to unfold into a fully-equipped 80-seater bar. It fascinates kids of all ages, and is easy to find at Ilott Green, just off Civic Square. … Continue Reading

By Karen Stephens A record field of 172 players, including 43 professionals from New Zealand and Australia, battled light winds, warm temperatures and even light early-morning fog at Martinborough golf’s 2024 CER Electrical and Holmes Construction pro-am on February 1. At least that was the range of excuses for some …
