Local Government funding

August 11, 2015 August 2015 Comments Off on Local Government funding

Local Govt. NZ has released a ten point plan on how to fund local government and incentivise economic growth. Most people would be against an increase in the overall funding for local government, however the current rates based system is inadequate, and it is good that Local Govt. NZ is looking at other complementary methods.
One problem with having local government funded by rates, is that local councils do not benefit from local economic growth, and hence are often not incentivised to support economic growth. Central Government does benefit from economic growth – an increase in the economy leads to more income tax and GST revenue. … Continue Reading

LOT EIGHT Awarded Gold at World’s largest Olive Oil Competition

August 11, 2015 August 2015 Comments Off on LOT EIGHT Awarded Gold at World’s largest Olive Oil Competition

LOT EIGHT Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) the Oilmakers Blend was awarded gold at the New York International Olive Oil Competition this month. The Competition is the largest such competition in the world, attracting close to 700 entrants to be judged by an international panel of expert judges from around the world.

Oilmaker Nalini Baruch commented that she entered the competition as a way to thank and support her customers in the USA. The gold medal acknowledges and reinforces why restaurants like New York’s Michelin Star Musket Room have chosen LOT EIGHT.

Nalini further commented that the award is all the more exciting as it is for oil made from their 2014 New Zealand harvest, highlighting that her EVOO remains true to certification after 10 months in the bottle, and holds its own against the new season’s oils of the Northern Hemisphere. And before anyone rushes to dismiss this as just another olive oil competion, one should look at the calibre of the judging panel, and noting that almost half of the 671 oils entered were rejected.

Hard on the heels of this announcement came news from Japan that the Lot Eight Reserve extra virgin olive oil received the Certificated of Excellence from the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Japan. The judging jury was particularly impressed with the overall performance score of 7.70 out of 10 despite the fact that the oil was 11 months in the bottle.

LOT EIGHT have produced award winning EVOO since 2003, Lot Eight have worked closely with New Zealand Trade & Enterprise over the last 3 years to develop a US market. Today LOT EIGHT is available across the US by direct order or through their LA based agent and used by chefs in New York, Washington DC, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Community Theatre comes to Martinborough – Mark’s Gospel in Drama

August 11, 2015 August 2015 Comments Off on Community Theatre comes to Martinborough – Mark’s Gospel in Drama

Mark-Drama A theatre performance with a difference will be held in Martinborough in August, one with little costuming, local actors, and employing improvisation and contemporary language. The dramatically innovative Mark Drama brings to life the Gospel of St Mark in a way that reflects the society in which it was first heard. It was written to be learned and then repeated so that a predominantly illiterate 1st century audience could access and understand it. Made up of six sections, the gospel is structured to promote ease of learning and then to be read or spoken to others. … Continue Reading
