South-Wairarapa-Tramping-ClubTHE DESIRE TO WALK?Danish philosopher Soren Kierkegaard exhorted his mid-19th Century audience: Above all, do not lose your desire to walk.

Every day, he walked himself into a state of well-being and away from illness. He walked himself into his best thoughts, claiming that he knew of no thought so burdensome that it could not be walked away from.? But by sitting still and the more one sits still the closer one comes to feeling ill. Thus if one just keeps on walking, everything will be all right.

You already know that Martinborough is good for your soul. What could be better to add to that than two experienced local health professionals teaming up to deliver what is also good for your body and mind. After a chance conversation at a Tippy Toes pre-school music session, Sarah Donaldson and Sarah Percy discovered their shared passion for proactive health and wellbeing. They have now combined their respective professional expertise in psychology and nutrition in their new business, Tea Retreats, and are offering an enticing array of wellbeing retreats.

‘Tea’ in Tea Retreats stands for Think, Eat and Act. “Tea Retreats targets 3 key pillars of health: mental resilience, nutrition and activity” says Clinical Psychologist, Sarah Donaldson. “While you may have other elements such as connecting to others or faith that are important to you, if you don’t get the Think, Eat, Act sorted, optimal health is impossible to achieve”. … Continue Reading

South-Wairarapa-RotaryThe month of July marks the end of one year and the start of the next in Rotary Clubs around the world. For the Rotary Club of South Wairarapa this was marked by a great afternoon recently at Longwood, the historic country lodge just outside Featherston. Celebrated was the achievements of the club under the guidance of out-going president Griff Page, and welcomed was incoming president Andy Corrigan. Entertainment was provided by the Featherston Gentlemen Singers under the guidance of Marguerite Tait-Jamieson, they sang a great selection of songs from the great war and even had the Rotarians and their guests joining in on a couple of the more well-known tunes.

With the changing of the President there is also a changing of the officers in the club which brings a new start and a new direction. A recent exercise undertaken by the club looked at where the club should be heading, including more involvement with the youth in the community. It was quite timely then that we recently got to hear from three girls who through Rotary had experienced opportunities that they may not normally have had. … Continue Reading

Under the Dome is a 2015 Chinese documentary film by Chai Jing, a former China Central Television journalist, concerning air pollution in China. The film, which combines footage of a lecture with interviews and factory visits, has been compared with Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth in style and likely impact. The film openly criticises state owned companies, steel producers and coal factories, as well as showing the inability of the Ministry of Environmental Protection to act against polluters.

This film, which might well be seen as compulsory viewing for anybody who is concerned about the state of our planet, will be shown at no charge as part of the South Wairarapa Biodiversity Group’s AGM on Sunday August 16. … Continue Reading
