From the American Department of statistics:

50,000 Americans are reported injured annually by pencils, pens and other desk objects.

40,000 receive injuries from using sofas, chairs and soft beds.

More are injured by sound (46,000) than by skateboards @ 44,000.

Trampolines are involved in 43,000 injuries, the same number as from razors.

Chainsaws were the problem in 39,000 cases while only 16,000 managed to injure themselves with hatchets or axes.

The Statistics Dept advises: ‘Be careful out there’.

However before becoming slightly smug at these numbers consider that the United States has population of three hundred and sixteen and a half million. By comparison New Zealand, with only four million, managed 70,000 rugby relate injuries last year costing ACC $64,000,000.
