At the Brigade’s Annual General Meeting held 26th July, Chief Fire Officer Bill Butzbach recognized several members who have completed advanced training during the year. Achieving Qualified Firefighter rank were Wayne Thomas, Justin Hudepohl and Lisa Marie Ireland. Dean DiBona passed Emergency Response Drivers Course. Sarah Hullah and Brad Aldridge completed the recruit Firefighters Course in Rotorua. Lisa Marie Ireland and Zoe Sinclair completed the Pump Operators Course. This month has been quite hectic with the on going  renovations at Wharekaka. Four new fire doors have been installed this is in keeping with the requirements for the hospital level care.

On the topic of Hospital Level Care – we are expecting to commence this service early September. An audit has taken place which Wharekaka passing with flying colours.  We are in the process of applying for grants to assist with the building extensions and the purchase of equipment. … Continue Reading

Local business owner, rugby supporter and coach, Mark Shepherd has been appointed to the part-time position of Neighbourhood Support Co-ordinator for the South Wairarapa.

Formerly from Christchurch where he did his schooling, Mark has been, until recently, branch manager with Mastertrade in the Hutt and Mico Plumbing Supplies in Wellington and Masterton, but now operates several part-time businesses in the Wairarapa.

The weather has generally been good for golf over the last month, apart from the odd blustery Sunday and damp week day, but nothing to deter the “keen” golfer. Twenty of our male members enjoyed balmy weather on their annual golf trip in Australia last month. This year the guys played four courses they hadn’t played before in the Coolum area, north of Brisbane, all with ‘water’ in their title!
