A Great Mix of Jazz

August 7, 2017 August 2017 Comments Off on A Great Mix of Jazz

The seventh spring festival of Jazz in Martinborough will bring a wide range of styles to our wine village for four days of entertaining music and events. From New Orleans blues to original modern jazz and everything in between, we have something for everyone.

“This year’s festival will be dedicated to the founder of Jazz in Martinborough, Ian Cresswell, who unexpectedly passed away recently” says Ted Preston, festival co-founder. “Ian was the producer for the festival and without him there would be no Jazz in Martinborough – so this one’s for him.” … Continue Reading

Change of Helmsman (or is it HelmsLady) at historic Anzac Hall, Featherston

Mary Mason of Featherston has been elected President of the South Wairarapa Rotary Club for the next 12 months. Mary succeeds Pat Dette who has ably managed the South Wairarapa Rotary Club through a year of growth, filled with fine food and fellowship with a good helping of community service successes.

Mary is a familiar figure in Featherston circles, an enthusiastic member of the local craft scene and a former organiser of the Martinborough Fair. She has done a wonderful job as director of the Club fellowship committee and we look forward to a great year under her watchful eye. … Continue Reading

MIDWINTER LUNCH

We decided it was time to venture “over the hill” for a change for our midwinter lunch. This turned out to be a good decision as we had a great time at the Aston Norwood Garden cafe.

It was a nice change sitting around tables chatting and catching up rather than the more formal setup involved in sitting in front of a guest speaker. The food was lovely, the company great and there was plenty of laughter. Between courses we decided to ensure the brains were all working so we had a very enjoyable quiz organised by our own Hilda. The results were a good balance – reassured us that our brains were still working and our general knowledge pretty good without being perfect and giving us swollen heads! … Continue Reading

Les Bob Viviants
Chamber music with joie de vivre is the theme of Les Bons Vivants, a group of musicians from the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra: Amandine Guerin, violin, Anthony Ferner, flute, and Helen Webby, harp. France and the Antipodes meet, musically, at 57 Wood Street in Greytown at 7.30pm on Saturday 19 August, before the group continues on its Chamber Music NZ tour.

The music to be performed is for varying combinations of the three instruments. Trios by Ibert and Leclair, and Duos for violin and harp by Saint-Saens and Faure, will be interspersed with a new commission for solo harp by New Zealander Lissa Meridan, another new commission for all three players by Alex van der Broek, a Suite for flute, violin and harp by Eugene Goosens, who lived most of his life in Australia, and Jack Body’s Rain Forest for flute, alto flute and harp. … Continue Reading

Golf pro-am success _ without clubhouse

By Karen Stephens A record field of 172 players, including 43 professionals from New Zealand and Australia, battled light winds, warm temperatures and even light early-morning fog at Martinborough golf’s 2024 CER Electrical and Holmes Construction pro-am on February 1. At least that was the range of excuses for some …
