Its been a long time coming, 28 years in fact but Martinborough are proud holders of the Tui Cup!!  Our Premier team won against Gladstone in a close entertaining game 36-32.  It felt like the whole town was at the game and the support was heard and noticed by the players on the field.  To top off our day our Reserve team had a win against Eketahuna 33-27 in their Plate Final for the Presidents Cup.

Such a great day for the Club – thank you to all our Players, Coaches, Managers, Committee, Sponsors and Supporters that have contributed to making 2019 such an epic year!!

Our JAB players have a few weeks left for their season so still a bit of local rugby to support.

Our Prize Giving will be held on the 24 August from 5.30pm for all grades, Junior & Senior.  There will also be a Senior Jersey auction – your chance to own a piece of green and black!!

Emergency power and water for Health Centre

The new emergency generator and water system.

You may have noticed the brand new, bright blue generator and 3000L water tank installed outside the back of the Health Centre.  This is the result of our latest project preparing for emergency situations. 

The generator is a 6 cylinder diesel powered Cummins, capable of delivering 80kw three phase power to keep the pharmacy and medical practice functioning during power outages.  This year we have had two planned power cuts to date. In future the new generator will keep the computers operational and the fridges running at a constant temperature to protect items such as vaccines should there be a power outage.

The water tank will have an ultraviolet filter to ensure a safe water supply.

The cost of both the generator and water tank plus installation has been covered by a very generous private donation.

On another note, we have had changes in the trustee membership.  

Garry Jackson, a founding trustee, who was always so willing to help, died tragically earlier this year.  

Catherine de Groot, who has been such a strong and supportive trustee, has resigned to allow her to meet her many commitments to other projects with which she is involved.  She will be sorely missed. … Continue Reading

Work begins on the Park and Playground

In an exciting step forward, the safety fences have gone up and Infinite Landscapes have started work, the play equipment is still accessible while phase 1 of this project is underway. This phase includes the re-installation of the flying fox, the installation of the BBQ and picnic table donated by Powerco, a new drinking fountain (funded by Martinborough Community Board), the new Tower and Slide (funded by Lions and Trust House), paths, seats, rubbish bins, gardens and fencing.

Work on the new Water Play Area will also be started, as the three play gates have been funded. We are still raising funds for the Hand Pump (key to this area) and hope to complete this later in the year. Once the bulk of phase 1 is complete, the next phase including restoring and moving existing play equipment and the remaining landscaping will start.

Wairarapa Fabric Fair 2019

All sewers, knitters, crafters get out your diary and keep the 14^th of September free, for the Wairarapa Fabric Fair!  Once again we are holding an event at South End School, High Street South, Carterton, from 10 am to 2pm.  Time to clear out that stash you have been meaning to get around to and donate it to our charity table or hire a table and sell it on the day!  We have a new not for profit group this year, that supports people Wairarapa wide: King Street Artworks!  Profits from the sales tables, donated goods table and cafe will go to this group!  

Great news we have just heard back and the lovely people from Carterton Central Lions will be running the Fab Cafe again this year! They did such a great job last year, looking forward to a cup of tea and something yummy.
