INNER WHEEL CLUB OF SOUTH WAIRARAPA

August 24, 2021 August 2021 Comments Off on  INNER WHEEL CLUB OF SOUTH WAIRARAPA

On 19th June five members from South Wairarapa Inner Wheel went to Waikanae for the Inner Wheel

District A G M and Change Over .

All districts took a box of items for the Wellington City Mission these were given to Murray Eldridge who was the guest speaker from Wellington City Mission.

It was interesting to know the Wellington City Mission has been operating in the Wellington region for 114 years.

Through their four programmes, mission for families, mission for youth, mission for independence and mission for seniors – they provide holistic practical support to a broad  range of people.  The assistance they provide includes food parcels, hot meals, advocacy, education, financial mentoring, and social work

support. They also operate an older care residential facility  called Kemp home and hospital. You may have seen on the news recently they have just opened a supermarket.

Murray gave a great insight to the wonderful work his staff and volunteer workers at Wellington City Mission do.  He was very grateful for our donations we supplied.

New members welcome

Rex Mc Intosh

Click Suite, Magician and Technical Wizard

Rex is one of the cofounders of Click Suite, a web design company established in 1994, specialising in creating interactive exhibitions as well as design.   Rex is the technical expert behind all the projects and has a passion for fun and magic. He also ensures that the company stays ahead of the industry by testing new technologies and in some cases designing world first, new technologies of his own.

Before Click Suite, Rex was already ahead of the game designing computer generated images on TV, sparking the interest of Steve Wozniak from Apple, who made a special trip to NZ to visit Rex at home, to check out just what on earth he was doing on his Apple 2 computer.

Then followed computer generated 3D animations for the AMP advertisement, with the deckchairs and umbrellas. Many of his animations for TV commercials have won international acclaim.

One of the highlights of the Te Papa Exhibition “Gallipoli The Scale of Our War” is the 3D skeleton which illustrates the impact of different weapons on the body. Rex’s attention to detail and perfectionism is ably represented by the reaction of the hand, which automatically moves to try to futilely deflect a hand grenade about to explode.  … Continue Reading

Hau Ariki Marae Renovations

August 24, 2021 August 2021 Comments Off on Hau Ariki Marae Renovations

Pump shed controls.

On Saturday 26th June, members of the Hau Ariki Marae warmly welcomed guests to view the recent renovations that have occurred over the last four to five months.

$370,000 was recently provided by the Provisional Growth Fund and the money has been put to good use. The alterations enhance the Marae, creating a multipurpose centre, which in the event of a major emergency, could be used as a Civil Defence Centre.

Kevin Haunui, Trevor Hawkins, and Les Roberts have overseen the

Two 25,000 litre water tanks, complete with pumping systems have been sited alterations.on what was known as the carving shed. (Te Heru Mai Tawhiti).  These will supply the sprinklers and fire wall system installed in the main meeting house, (Te Whare Wananga o Tüpai).  In the longer term the sprinkler system will be extended to cover the entire marae.  An extra tank will be installed to provide potable water for emergency use. The tanks have already been filled, courtesy of the fire brigade.

In the area used for catering and socialising, (Ngā Waka a Kupe), the kitchen has been extended to create a food preparation area.  Stainless steel benches and open shelved cupboards for storage provide a workable centre for the provision of large quantities of food. A chilling room has been created behind the kitchen with the chiller kindly donated by Pain and Kershaw.  … Continue Reading

From the mayor

August 24, 2021 August 2021, Regular Features Comments Off on From the mayor

Firstly, a big ‘get well soon’ to Bruce Sullivan from Kitchener’s Dairy, who is recovering from surgery. Everyone has missed you, so looking forward to seeing you back on deck.

Conservation week will be running soon, actually with events from 30th August to 16th September. See the programme at https://waip2k.org.nz/conservation-week. I had an informative  presentation recently on the work being undertaken by Ducks Unlimited on wetlands around Wairarapa Moana, and encourage everyone to get involved with initiatives such as this.

The 3Waters reform is a rising issue for all residents, with the Government pushing through legislation with unseemly haste. The proposal will be the formation of a water entity that will nationalise all your water assets, and separately bill for water supply. This covers drinking water, wastewater and stormwater.

Once we have finally received all information on the plan, we will try to engage with you as to whether you wish for this option to be accepted, if we are given the chance to do this by Minister Mahuta. Many will be delighted by the removal of water costs from your rates, which can be significant, but please research what the additional costs from a government-run entity will look like. And please challenge the assumptions made in the Government’s publicity on likely savings. … Continue Reading

The demolition of the Martinborough Golf Club is complete.
