Library Book Club

February 17, 2020 February 2020 Comments Off on Library Book Club

Be daring join a Book Club for 2020. This club is for people who enjoy reading fro pleasure, information or simply escapism.

This is for you!

We meet on the second Friday of the month, therefore the next meeting will be held on Friday 14th February at 10 am.

There are no set books. Just come with a book you have read recently and tell us about it. You don’t even have to have found it edifying. Together we have found some great reads. Also our discussions have ranged widely over many topics. We don’t buy into censorship.

For the next meeting please bring a book that you think is fantastic and that you are passionate about encouraging others to read it also.

Remember that this club is informal and everyone is welcome.

For information ring Glenys on 027 2821 757

MARTINBOROUGH RUGBY CLUB

February 17, 2020 February 2020 Comments Off on MARTINBOROUGH RUGBY CLUB

Thanks to the Martinborough Football Club, Liverpool Supporters Club of Wellington, and the SWDC an AED  (defibrillator) has been mounted on the wall outside the changing sheds & gym.  This faces both the rugby and football pitches…we hope it never has to be used bust such a great thing to have on site in case of an emergency!

HEARTBEAT COMMUNITY CPR TRAINING – we are very fortunate to have Wairarapa Heartbeat  running a session at the Clubrooms on Wednesday 19 February at 7pm, this is to train members of the community how to react in the event of a cardiac arrest (CPR and the use of an AED), in particular there will be scenarios specific to the sports club environment.  If you are interested in attending please contact Matthew.hitchiner@wfa.org.nz … Continue Reading

Happy New Year!

February 17, 2020 February 2020 Comments Off on Happy New Year!

The summer has seen Martinborough buzzing!

We hope all businesses have had a great festive season.

For the Business Association we are just getting back into action, with the first goal to complete the new 2020 visitor map and then launch the new website

Then we will be looking ahead to growing the potential from the Dark Sky project. We will be engaging with our business members on the opportunities and what we need to do to respond to visitors across our winter months in what has been classically our “quiet time”

But first its Fair time, its been great to work with new fair convenors to keep Martinborough single use plastic bag free. They have some new re cycling options so we look forward to seeing how that goes.

Museum News

February 17, 2020 February 2020 Comments Off on Museum News

We would like to thank everyone who supported the recent 125th birthday of the Museum building.   The fundraising 1982 documentary was a box office smash.  We hoped to fill one theatre and ended up screening the film 6 times.  The proceeds will go towards developing an exhibition space to allow us to show more of our area’s  heritage.

There’s another anniversary coming up soon.  In October it will be the 150th anniversary of the sale of the first sections at Wharekaka Waihinga, the original settlement pre-dating Martinborough.   If you have any information or memorabilia about this historic area we’d love to hear from you.

We’ve got lots of new initiatives for 2020.  If you have ideas or feedback about the museum do let us know so we can consider these in our planning.

Golf pro-am success _ without clubhouse

By Karen Stephens A record field of 172 players, including 43 professionals from New Zealand and Australia, battled light winds, warm temperatures and even light early-morning fog at Martinborough golf’s 2024 CER Electrical and Holmes Construction pro-am on February 1.
