Pantry Challenge brings inspiration to food parcel ingredients

When chef Ant North’s Greytown-based business, Ant North Catering, shuddered to a halt during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, it was easy for him to transfer his time and energy to cooking for his family at home. But the pandemic made him think. “I was cooking for my family, but I could easily have cooked for the whole street! Lockdown Level 4 me realise just how stressful food can be – when you don’t have enough of it or when you are too stressed to know what to do with it when you have it”.

In response, Ant developed The Pantry Challenge – a series of 14 cooking demo videos on YouTube and Facebook creating quick, easy and nutritious meals using common food parcel ingredients, accompanied by recipe cards to go into Foodbank food parcels in Wairarapa. … Continue Reading

Maree’s musings

SLEEPING it OFF

2021 is well under way, and I wonder how your New Year Resolutions are going? My only one is to not make any. It’s easy to keep and saves uncertainty about success, which plagues most of the more conventional ones. Generally they involve personal improvements. Lose weight, get fit etc., maybe ‘Be more organised’ Or perhaps ‘Get more sleep’?

I discovered we spend about 112 hours per week awake and one-third of those working, which proves tiring. Work is not a subject I want to (ahem!) labour on about, but doing the maths, that’s about 56 hours in bed, possibly, asleep. Sleep is a fascinating subject, so was worth a column I surmised. … Continue Reading

Martinborough Lions got into the Christmas Spirit

February 9, 2021 February 2021 Comments Off on Martinborough Lions got into the Christmas Spirit

Martinborough Lions Club wound up the year by partnering with the Foodbank to fund, assemble and deliver some nice Christmas Hampers of goodies to all the Foodbank participants in Martinborough. Foodbank reported that there were lots of people with smiley faces picking up their hampers, also some tears and hugs. For many people it’s been a tough year.

Martinborough Lions realised this and planned and did something about it  for Christmas. Let’s keep that momentum up and look out for each other, particularly those in our village who are on their own or find themselves in difficult circumstances this festive season. … Continue Reading

Martinborough Golf Club has tumbled down

The demolition of the Martinborough Golf Club is complete. In the last days prior to Christmas a fully-insulated pole shed, much like a top end farm outbuilding, was erected to act as both office and temporary clubhouse. New septic tanks, internet connectivity, power, water, and Porticom loos were installed. On …
