If I was a book, I would like to be a library book, so I would be taken home by all different sorts of kids.” – Cornelia Funke

Happy New Year!  Wairarapa Library Service is delighted to be welcoming our communities back into the libraries, catching up on what we’ve all been doing over the summer.

We’ve just wrapped up our annual Summer Reading Programme; it was fantastic to see the children coming in to do their report-ins, pick up each prize and choose some more books to read.  The Programme ended with a summer picnic to celebrate everybody’s achievements. … Continue Reading

Déjà vu

February 9, 2021 February 2021 Comments Off on Déjà vu

Déjà vu, which translates as ‘already seen,’ was coined by the 19th century French philosopher Emile Boirac  who was the president of Dijon University but spent most of his time doing experiments with clairvoyance and mysticism .

He believed that déjà vu was due to emotions, thinking that if you had the same emotions in two different situations then you might accidently confuse the two.

Current best theory is that it’s your brain doing a quick memory stock check. When you are in a situation similar to one in the past your brain gets confused and send signals of similarity , along with a feeling of unease.

Researchers  say that it is a good sign indicating that your facilities are in full working order.

Are Lima-ricks — And ‘e’s tricked you!)

Then looking over at the Waihinga playground, full of families and grandparents – literally hundreds of people – made me realise this:  there may have been controversy, there may have been naysayers, but the end result is perfect and a credit to the town. This seems often the way when change is proposed, but we sometimes need to consider the cost of doing nothing – what we may miss out on if we do nothing. … Continue Reading
