Kids on bikes, scooters hit pump track slopes

Organisers say they are thrilled that the long-awaited pump track has officially become a reality, and its proof has been in the riding! 

It has quickly become a favourite hotspot for kids of all ages, buzzing with energy and excitement as they test their skills and enjoy the track’s challenges.

Martinborough Wine & Food Society

The group met on December 14 for a pre-Christmas festive meal.

It reported that “for our Christmas function we went to Karahui for lunch.

“The food was excellent as was the service and the wine list. The ambience and the company were outstanding. The picture captures some of the ambience.

We usually take a break in January and then we host a picnic in February.

Late Report from the Provinces: Santa at Ruakokopatuna

Santa dodged the Christmas storms. 

Atmospheric pressure was dropping and the cumulo nimbus clouds (meaning: dense, towering, vertical clouds), were getting thicker and thicker, darker and darker. There was a crack of thunder, a flash of lightning, the door opened and in came Santa having parked his Hilux reindeers as close to the hall as possible. Thirteen millimetres of rain in 13 seconds but Santa was bone dry.

Martinborough Fire Brigade Report

This month sees the end of an era for the Brigade as Chris Hooson, the driving force behind our Medical First Response team, retires from the Brigade after nearly 29 years’ service to the community.

Chris began volunteering out at the Tora Brigade in 1996 when Rural Fire was Council-operated, becoming a Deputy Rural Fire Officer, Trainer and Assessor, and a member of the Rural Regional Incident Management Team. 

Chris was working full time for Wellington Free Ambulance (some of you will have seen Chris in his green WFA uniform). He went on to work fulltime for the NZ Fire Service in the Central Communications Centre, become a NZFS Regional First Aid Trainer, educating paid and volunteer fire crews, before returning to Ambulance in the Wairarapa as an Emergency Medical Technician, where he still works for WFA.  … Continue Reading
