July 25, 2016 July 2016 Comments Off on Great donation from Madcaps

Great-donation-from-Madcaps2 MADCAPs is pleased to present a cheque for the Waihenga Centre of $7000.00. The initial pledge was $5000.00 and then last year we held our fundraiser “One Night Stand” a dinner and show that raised $2000.00 from the evening. We are looking forward to having the opportunity to hold our future shows in the Waihenga Centre Both Vicki and Steve are in costume for our coming show in September “Rock till you Drop, Time Travel the Musical Highway”.

The auditions have been held and practises are now underway for our 2016 show “Rock Till You Drop” that will be held at the Martinborough Hau Ariki Marae this year, we have a great cast so far and can not wait to perform it to the community in September.
Tickets will be going on sale later on in the year so keep an eye out for the posters once they go up around the town. You can like us on our MADCAPS Facebook page for the latest updates and photo’s from the show.

Here’s an idea

Candidates for the coming elections could do well to take a lead from Auckland’s mayoral candidate John Palino who has printed a booklet outlining what he sees as wrong with the Auckland Council, and what he wants to do to fix it.

It’s encouraging to see a candidate offer specific policies. I would hope that our local candidates will do the same. Too many campaigns are about style not substance.
While many of John Palino’s proposals pertain solely to Auckland others such as those below would be equally equally of interest to South Wairarapa.

John Palino promises to :
*Reduce rates over the first term
*Hold Councillors responsible for meeting and managing within budgets and limiting future rates increases to no more than inflation and population growth.
*Have any major project fully communicated well in advance with opportunity for ratepayer comment .
*Make Council spending transparent to Ratepayers so they can judge whether or not their money is being spent sensibly with all spending to be placed monthly on the Internet
*To hold council officers to account for poor or tardy decisions by establishing a Review Panel, including relevant external experts if required, that ratepayers can appeal to.
* Make the rates reduction a KPI indicator for the CEO
*Have all consenting decisions made within half the statutory deadline.
1 (I also note that Wellington Mayoral candidate Nichola Young has also made a promise to keep any rate rises to no more than the rate of inflation.)
2 There’s little doubt that local ratepayers would like to add to John’s list.

Martinborough Junior Hockey Club Mid-Winter Update

July 25, 2016 July 2016, Sports Comments Off on Martinborough Junior Hockey Club Mid-Winter Update

Junior-hockey Hooray! Our new 11-aside shirts have arrived and the teams played in them for the first time last week. We have had lots of favourable comments about how smart they look on the turf. The lighter green shirt with white detail and numbers on the back, together with our white socks, makes us stand out from the other green strips – and we no longer have to wear bibs or “inside out” our shirts when we play. … Continue Reading

Martinborough Rugby

July 25, 2016 July 2016 Comments Off on Martinborough Rugby

Junior-Rugby- The 2016 rugby season is already halfway through, and our teams (and supporters!) have all been enjoying the relatively mild weekend weather. This year we have 6 competition teams – Under 6 Rippa, Under 8 Black and Under 8 Green, Under 9, Under 11 and Under 13, and a total of 64 registered players.
Our Under 6 Rippa team are coached by one of our Senior A players, Tennesse Liumaihetau. Having a senior player coaching our smallest rugby players is a great example of our “whole club” focus. The Under 6’s are having a blast learning the basics of rugby from Tennesse, ably assisted by Steve Golding. These guys have a real focus on fun! … Continue Reading

Golf pro-am success _ without clubhouse

By Karen Stephens A record field of 172 players, including 43 professionals from New Zealand and Australia, battled light winds, warm temperatures and even light early-morning fog at Martinborough golf’s 2024 CER Electrical and Holmes Construction pro-am on February 1. At least that was the range of excuses for some …
