July 23, 2019 July2019 Comments Off on From the mayor

We’re very busy at Council so there’s lots for me to cover off this month. If you need more information about anything, please visit our website or Facebook page, or you can always email us on enquiries@swdc.govt.nz or call on 06 306 9611.

It’s really important that our Council represents the community it serves, and that you have your say on who you want to represent you. For all those thinking about standing in the local election, a Candidate Briefing is being held at the Waihinga Centre at 7pm on 10 July.

New Council Chief Executive Harry Wilson joined us a month ago. Harry has made Martinborough his home so you will see him out and about in the community. You can find out more about Harry in his interview article on page X. … Continue Reading

It’s not the taste.

July 23, 2019 July2019 Comments Off on It’s not the taste.

A study by Chicago’s Northwestern University School of Medicine people are more likely to drink coffee or alcohol because of how it makes them feel  rather than how it tastes.

The study found that  a person’s preference for sweet of bitter beverages isn’t based on variations in taste genes but in the psychoactive  components of the drinks. The scientists believe that this  behaviour-reward effect may be used to help provide solutions to helping people with poor appetites which effect their diets.

Junior Football

July 23, 2019 July2019 Comments Off on Junior Football

As you read this, our Junior teams will have just got over the halfway mark for their season. This year we have been very fortunate to have had an influx of new players and interest in that we are now fielding 7 junior teams every Saturday morning in their respective leagues.

A big thank you needs to go out to all the coaches and assistants of these teams who give up their time to not only take the teams on a Saturday but also arrange training sessions during the week as well.

From what I have heard and seen over the past few weeks, all of the Martinborough FC players are performing admirably and a credit to the town.

Some of our older teams have been re-graded this year and have come up against tough opposition – which has been good for them to learn new skills, etc…

We held our First Junior Festival of the season back at the end of May and over the course of the morning hosted nearly 40 teams from across the region (along with their siblings, parents and the occasional dog!). 2 more to go on 29th June and 17th August. … Continue Reading

Golf pro-am success _ without clubhouse

By Karen Stephens A record field of 172 players, including 43 professionals from New Zealand and Australia, battled light winds, warm temperatures and even light early-morning fog at Martinborough golf’s 2024 CER Electrical and Holmes Construction pro-am on February 1. At least that was the range of excuses for some …
