With the JAB competition having started on the 14 May and the Senior competition into the second round Saturdays are very busy for our rugby families.  As well as some busy Friday nights as some of the Under 11 and Under 13s get to play on the turf at Memorial Park under lights.

We would like to welcome Mana Ngaau and Vaike Potoru who have arrived from the Cook Islands to play for our Senior Premier team.  I’m sure that they will enjoy their stay here and if you see them around be sure to say hello.
A huge thank you to the Martinborough Community Board who granted us $734 to help fund the buses for our Senior away games when they travel large distances. … Continue Reading

With work well underway to kick off Stage One of the project it is time to turn our minds back to fundraising. The Waihinga Charitable Trust recently called in the first round of pledges, totalling in the region of $550,000 in the first year. Thanks to the generosity of our community we have already received well over $300,000 of those funds. The remainder of the pledged money is due to come in over the next two to four years.

Volunteers within the community recently met for the second time to start working on a plan for the town and surrounding areas, in the event of a major disaster. These meetings have been facilitated by Scott Dray and Darryl McCurdy from the Wellington Regional Emergency Management Office (WREMO) who are actively encouraging communities to be prepared for natural disasters, and in particular a big earthquake that could result in lost access, communications and lifelines such as power and water. These planning sessions incorporate lessons learned from communities affected by disasters in Christchurch and overseas. … Continue Reading

Booklovers take note. First Church’s Monster Book Fair is coming soon. On the weekend of 17-19 June you will find thousands of second hand books for sale at the Martinborough Town Hall.
All proceeds from the fair go towards the running of the Church, which has been serving the Martinborough community for over 140 years. Admission is free on Saturday and Sunday. If you would like preferential access to the sale then come along to the opening on Friday the 17th. For $15 you’ll get first choice of sale books and a supper famous for its home baking.
The opening night speaker this year will be Dr Janet Davidson ONZM. She will give a short talk on a recently published book about growing up Martinborough in the 1950s. She will also offer insights into much more ancient times, gained from her illustrious career as an archaeologist. … Continue Reading
