New vehicle emissions down

June 8, 2020 June 2020 Comments Off on New vehicle emissions down

The emissions of new vehicles fell by 21% since 2006 levels. It’s partly because of more EVs and hybrids on the road, and partly because New Zealand has a seriously aged fleet, and any renewal will almost inevitably be beneficial. However, it is somewhat offset by the continued popularity of the least efficient types of vehicles, particularly SUVs and ostentatiously big utes.

Kia ora koutou,

A warm, warm greeting to everyone as we  adjust to Level 2. After being so cautious in our bubbles, it is a real change to being able to be out and about with more ease while still observing the social distancing and hygiene practices being asked of us in this Level 2 ‘new normal’. The visual produced by Neighbourhood New Zealand gives some key tips on managing life in Level 2,  caring for ourselves and our neighbours.

A big shout-out to all of you have supported neighbours, friends and family. It is times like these where our Neighbourhood Support networks kick in to make sure we are all looked after. You can follow us on Facebook, look up “South Wairarapa Neighbourhood Support” page and like us to get all our updates.

Thanks to all the essential workers

June 8, 2020 June 2020 Comments Off on Thanks to all the essential workers

My husband and I would like to thank all the essential workers as a group who worked so hard behind the scenes in many instances to help all of us.  The list is too many to list them all.  One person and team that stood out for us particularly  was Aryn McKissock and the entire P and K grocery team.  We used their delivery and grocery pickup service for weeks and were in awe of their always caring, friendly, and professional service.  We can only imagine what a massive effort it was to get their website up and running and provide such a caring and community oriented service.  It is actually the best food delivery and pickup service we have heard about around the entire region and we couldn’t be more grateful. Many, many thanks.

COVID19 is not the first pandemic virus to visit Martinborough.   The Spanish Flu in 1918 killed 8 people in town and many more in the surrounding Maori communities.

Medical knowledge about how to prevent and treat the illness was limited. People resorted to all sorts of peculiar and ultimately useless remedies.

Onions were advertised as one of the “best preventatives”.  Even back then quinine was being touted as a treatment, as was a mixture of iodine and creosote. Claims that alcohol might have medicinal properties led to a big boost in sales and outrage in the Temperance Movement.   … Continue Reading
