MARTINBOROUGH GOLF CLUB REPORT

June 9, 2021 June 2021, Sports Comments Off on MARTINBOROUGH GOLF CLUB REPORT

It is a hive of activity at the course today – lots of men with rakes, leaf blowers and leaf suckers tidying up around the clubhouse and squash club.  The course is looking good and the greens have come back well after being cored early last month.

There have been good numbers playing Grumpies on a Tuesday with winners over the last few weeks being Brent McKinlay (twice), Raymond Matthews, Rob Lopez and Darren de Joux (ex Featherston but now residing in Sydney).  The last couple of weeks the Grumpies have played a hidden hole competition and an Irish Stableford – who knows what is in store for them next month!!  Twos over the last few weeks have gone to Mariana McDermott, Storm Robertson, Russell Walker (visitor from Mangawhai), Paul Riddiford, Whitney Griffiths, Brent McKinlay, John Warner, Rob McCreary, Chris Cole and Chris Ranish. … Continue Reading

Maree’s musings

June 9, 2021 June 2021 Comments Off on Maree’s musings

ON the OTHER HAND …

A few weeks ago I had an unfortunate altercation with some boiling water – filling a hottie, if you must know – which resulted in a rather nasty burn to my right hand and wrist. However, it’s not all bad. The usual hassles: no showering, swimming, hair-washing etc, but my piano playing and writing continue and luckily the experience inspired the subject of this month’s column. … Continue Reading

LIBRARY UPDATES

June 9, 2021 June 2021 Comments Off on LIBRARY UPDATES

Chances are you’ll notice a different look in the Library next time you visit – we’re going to be making a few changes with the physical layout, to better align with how people are using the Library space.  Here’s what is changing:

  • the fiction shelves will be swung to be better lined up with the black pillars, making it easier for our mobility-impaired customers to navigate through the rows.
  • Our public computers and copier/scanner will be grouped together in part of the previous staff area, for more privacy.
  • We have extended our teen space and have moved in a computer for our rangatahi.  We’ll be adding a few beanbags in the near future as well.
  • Our white study tables are moving to a quieter section of the Library; magazines, newspapers, the large print selection, audiobooks, local history and the Māori collection will also be housed in this space.  We’ll be adding some armchairs for comfy browsing.
  • Our children’s area is bigger! Our tamariki now have a larger space to move around in, and staff can host our regular school class visits comfortably.

Golf pro-am success _ without clubhouse

By Karen Stephens A record field of 172 players, including 43 professionals from New Zealand and Australia, battled light winds, warm temperatures and even light early-morning fog at Martinborough golf’s 2024 CER Electrical and Holmes Construction pro-am on February 1. At least that was the range of excuses for some …
