Councillor Comment

June 11, 2018 June2018 Comments Off on Councillor Comment

This month I would like to start with congratulations to the committee and members of Hau Ariki Marae, in their foresight to bring the DIY Marae project team and film crew to Martinborough.

The amount they have achieved through their DIY Marae project is nothing less than outstanding and is a credit to their and the communities hard work over the weekend of 18th May.  The marae is a wonderful asset to our community and is unique because people from all ethnic groups feel welcome and they are encompassing of the wider community as well.

This year First Church Martinborough are holding their Monster Mid-winter book fair at the Marae over the weekend of the 22nd to 24th June – please come along and support both the Marae and First church in their joint effort to showcase the marae and support the wider work of the church.

I know that I keep talking about the Long Term Plan, but this is such an important document, which guides council in its spending for the next three years.  This year we received our largest number of submissions (182 in total) and to councillors, this is great as it shows the interest people have in what Council is spending and the areas these funds are going to, we thank you for this.  This will be signed off at the Council meeting on the 27th June. … Continue Reading

A recent study found that around 25 percent of the population get the flu virus each year with about 4 out of 5 people (80 percent) showing no symptoms.

“This means you could be spreading the flu virus without knowing it or being unwell,” Dr Lincoln said. “Having a flu vaccination not only helps to protect you from this highly contagious disease – it also helps to keep your family, friends and co-workers well too.”

This year’s vaccine provides protection against the strain that caused the severe illness in the northern hemisphere during the recent winter there.

“This year could be particularly bad for winter illnesses,” said Dr Lincoln.  … Continue Reading
