MARTINBOROUGH COMMUNITY CHOIR  – CONCERT JULY 17.

June 11, 2018 June2018 Comments Off on MARTINBOROUGH COMMUNITY CHOIR  – CONCERT JULY 17.

The choir has been enjoying learning a wide variety of songs so far this year, and we’ve decided to present a mid-winter concert, in St. Andrew’s, on Tuesday evening, July 17. There’ll be more info in next month’s Star.

We’ll sing songs from the 16th Century to the present day (including a waiata arranged for us in 2018), as well as songs from movies, and vintage pop songs.

Choir members enjoyed the opportunity to sing in smaller groups as part of our December concert last year, so we’ve decided to make the ‘small groups set’ part of our regular concert programme.

This year we’ve been lucky to have had another ‘choir masterclass’ from our fantastic patron, Mark Dorrell, and we’re hoping he’ll have time to come back and see us again soon. Mark is a wonderful conductor, pianist and vocal coach, and has become a good friend of our choir.

We always welcome new members into the choir, no audition necessary. An ability to read music is an advantage, but not essential.

If you’re interested in joining us, please come along to our concert, and/or contact vicbjones@gmail.com

WBS MARTINBOROUGH FC – UPDATE

June 11, 2018 June2018, Sports Comments Off on WBS MARTINBOROUGH FC – UPDATE

It has been a while since I last wrote about the club and we have had a few changes – mainly with a newly formed committee to oversee both the Junior and Senior teams and ensure that moving forward we continue to grow as a Community based club.

We have 6 Junior teams entered in various grades this year and they kicked off their campaigns a few weeks ago and have performed exceptionally well to date – I have had the pleasure in watching most of them so far and each player has worn their shirt and represented Martinborough with pride.

The Junior Festival was held here on 26th May (with 2 more to follow) and we had a fantastic turn out and would also like to thank the team at Mitre 10 for the BBQ and the team at P & K for the food as it is always appreciated.

I would also like to give a special mention to Matt and his team at Burger Craft here in Martinborough as they are an additional sponsor of the Senior team and the club looks forward to supporting Matt and his team as much as he is looking forward to supporting us. … Continue Reading

Netball off to great start

June 11, 2018 June2018 Comments Off on Netball off to great start

Southern Netball is off to an awesome start in 2018 with 6 teams competing from grade 1 to Future ferns. Martinborough Community Board and Mitre 10 have provided fabulous support to the club providing uniform and equipment while …… has supported us in training at the Martinborough Tennis Club. The club also kicked off the preseason with carparking at the Martinborough Fair and a very successful sausage sizzle on opening day.

The competition round started with wins to the Steel, Sting and Stars with the Storm loosing by just 3 goals.

Two of our players Tatiyana Hawkins and Maralyse Whiteman have been named in the Wairarapa Intermediate and Development teams respectively. Our coaches have had the opportunity to train with Irene van Dyke and it hasn’t stopped their we have also been named finalist in the 2017 Wairarapa Times Age Club of the Year and look forward to the result later in June.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the clubs positive start to the season.

Pink Ribbon Breakfast

June 11, 2018 June2018 Comments Off on Pink Ribbon Breakfast

Organised by Susan and Nick from Medici Café and Susan Stephen, the event on Friday 25th May was an outstanding success raising $7737.50 for the Breast Cancer Foundation NZ.

The event had sold out 12 days before the actual date so Bruce and Chris from the Village Café organised an event at the same time to coincide. At the completion of the breakfast at the Village Café, the group joined Medici Café and participated in the Auction.

Everybody brought out their pink attire with two lovely ladies, Anne and Jessica taking home the magnum of Schubert Rose and Dinner for Two at Peppers Parehua for the most fabulously dressed.

Accompanying the menu with a wonderful choice of 4 breakfasts was the newly released Palliser Rose Methods Traditionelle.

A highlight of the Auction saw a competitive bid for a countryside ride and coffee with Kevin and Dave on their Harley motorbikes. Wellington Wine Country provided fabulous wine for the auction, a Matt Guild print was keenly contested, Toast Martinborough tickets were snapped up as was a pink bird from the Chrystal Chain Gang. … Continue Reading
