You can make a difference

March 12, 2020 March 2020 Comments Off on You can make a difference

Our changing climate will affect our environment, economy and way of life – a notion both  familiar and daunting. The Ministry of the Environment recently released health check stats on our environment. The report identified the challenges we face from loss of biodiversity, to the deteriorating  health of our land and water and seas through the impact of climate change.

The big environmental headlines can make us feel simultaneously disconnected and overwhelmingly powerless. However the reality is what each of us does daily creates changes  in the environment – just like a pebble thrown in a still pool creates  a series of ripples.

So let’s trace the path of one from our daily choices; the choice we make moving from A to B. We love our cars so much that we have the highest rate of car ownership in the  OECD However that family car is responsible for  a quarter of  Ne Zealand’s carbon dioxide emissions.  … Continue Reading

MARTINBOROUGH GOLF CLUB NEWS

March 12, 2020 March 2020 Comments Off on MARTINBOROUGH GOLF CLUB NEWS

It has been a busy start to the year for the Golf Club beginning in January with the Spark Pro Am closely followed by the start of the interclub season.

The Mens interclub teams have had a mixed start to their year.  Division 4 had a couple of away matches to begin their season which is always a tough way to start but they have now settled back into it with a couple of wins at home.  It has been particularly pleasing to see a few players returning to interclub – namely Lance Phelps, Lyall Callaghan and Mark Lucock – these guys have added some strength to the team.

Division 11 have started the season with 4 very good wins at home and are at the top of the division with a couple of tough away matches in the next few weeks.

The course has been very busy this month with green fees and overseas visitors enjoying the great weather and the exceptional run on the fairways. … Continue Reading

Your Invitation

March 12, 2020 March 2020 Comments Off on Your Invitation

Hospice Wairarapa fund-raiser functions are well-known for flair, festive drinks and fabulous finger food – and you are invited.

The Roaring 20s Cocktail Party fund-raiser will be two hours of fun, frivolity and scene-setting décor at a recently transformed Waihinga Centre, 5-7pm on Saturday 14 March 2020.

With your free welcome drink in hand you can peruse Silent Auction items, take a punt with a mystery balloon and nibble your way round canapes donated by local chefs.  Or sample a “Hanky Panky” cocktail from the Bubbles Bar.

A highlight will be a fast-paced good-humoured auction of some rather special items, all generously donated by members of our community.

So invite your friends to stay, add some jazz-age flourishes to your outfit and join the party for an excellent local charity. Dress up or not, the choice is yours, it will be fun anyway.

The funds raised will enable Hospice Wairarapa to develop and extend their South Wairarapa Outreach Programme and bring more vital services to our area.

Tickets are on sale now on bookings@hospicewairarapa.co.nz  at $55pp.

A Black Comedy about Mental Health ?

Coming Soon to The Village Café in Martinborough, Friday March 27 and Saturday March 28  at 7.30 pm

Based on a true story, actor/co-writer Lisa Brickell and musician/actor Siri Embla weave together a tale of multiple characters and various dubious alter-egos. Their tongue-in-cheek rendering of deeply flawed situations is, in places, as dark as it is outrageously funny.
Juggling the characters of four generations of women and their hilarious ‘inner critics’ Lisa performs in a Commedia dell’Arte style half mask, ensuring audiences keep on top of who’s who. A hopeful and entertaining show, Mockingbird will resonate in your thoughts long after you leave. … Continue Reading
