Meet our Digital Seniors’ Coaches

November 6, 2020 November 2020 Comments Off on Meet our Digital Seniors’ Coaches

John MacGibbon

John MacGibbon is one of three coaches at Martinborough’s Digital Seniors’ hub. It is one of five hubs in the Wairarapa which are trialling the Digital Seniors programme, with a view to a national roll-out. The hub operates in the St Andrews Church hall between 9.30 and 11.30am on Thursday mornings. The other local coaches are Roger Fraser and Fred Davies.

MacGibbon has coached in Martinborough since March last year. He has a background as a writer, communications consultant and book publisher, who since 1991 has been self-employed. To keep his business running he’s had to be his own problem-solving IT manager. He has often been called on by friends and family to help with their technology and volunteering to be a Digital Seniors coach was a natural extension. … Continue Reading

Marty Jobs Share Collaboration

November 6, 2020 November 2020 Comments Off on Marty Jobs Share Collaboration

The Martinborough Business association is continuing to support businesses to find staff for the busy summer season ahead. Publishing members’ job vacancies on social media and sharing out to Wairarapa groups on a weekly basis.

It has been great to hear success stories from employers and local people having found employment via this channel.

The Marty Job Share concept is evolving into  “Marty Job Share Collaboration” which has been looking at ways to ensure a labour pool to fill these jobs. … Continue Reading

Martinborough Lions Club update

November 6, 2020 November 2020 Comments Off on Martinborough Lions Club update

Martinborough Lions have enjoyed meeting in a mainly Covid 19 free New Zealand over the past few weeks. Our last meeting in October was a “Halloween” themed night, which was a lot of fun for everyone. This was a “business meeting” as well, so it was a good illustration of how the club really works hard to make our meetings enjoyable, whilst getting the “jobs done”. Whilst the photo makes it look really “scary”, we are actually a club that is firmly based on friendship and comaradie.

The Lion’s Annual Christmas luncheon for all people living alone is on 5th December at 12 noon at the Lion’s Hall, 1 Oxford Street, Martinborough. Anyone wanting to come is welcome to enjoy our Christmas cheer. Contact Tom Bunny 306-9550 or John Blundell 306-9140. … Continue Reading

November 6, 2020 November 2020, Regular Features, Sports Comments Off on Martinborough Golf Report

Another very busy month at the Golf Club which began with the Mens 54/36 Hole Open.  The players had to endure some very windy conditions on the Saturday but fortunately the weather was a lot kinder on the Sunday.  Winners of the 54 Hole Division were:  Best Gross Owen Lloyd, 2nd Troy Shaw, 3rd Paul Hartley, Best Nett Nick Morison, 2nd Richard Mills, 3rd Jason Shaw.  Winners of the 36 Hole Division were:  Best Gross Peter Spearman-Burn, 2nd Thomas Spearman-Burn, 3rd Malcolm Wood, Best Nett Peter Stevens, 2nd Dayle Scrimshaw, 3rd Terry Blacktop.

The following weekend we hosted the Baarbraa Trophy which is played annually against Eketahuna.  A Stableford round was played and judging by the results it looked as if Martinborough would be taking the Trophy back but unfortunately it was not meant to be as the average scores were Martinborough 33.2381 and Eketahuna 34.5333.  Maybe next year. … Continue Reading

Martinborough Golf Club has tumbled down

The demolition of the Martinborough Golf Club is complete. In the last days prior to Christmas a fully-insulated pole shed, much like a top end farm outbuilding, was erected to act as both office and temporary clubhouse.
