Climate Road Show Visits Martinborough.

Extinction Rebellion has a fierce sound to it but local supporters Jude Brown and Bruce Congalton are keen that people don’t get the wrong impression.

Yes, members are very serious about their cause –addressing the climate crisis – but they are an essentially a positive, hopeful and non-violent direct action group.

The Climate Roadshow, a collaboration between Extinction Rebellion and Aotearoa Climate Emergency, stopped in The Square last week on it’s way to Parliament to present a series of demands: declaration of a national climate emergency, a Citizens’ Assembly on climate next year, and a green economic recovery post-COVID.   … Continue Reading

Community Board update

Tēnā koutou kātoa

For this months Community Board update, I would like to to discuss the Pain Estate.

The Community Board, with full support from the Council, have been working hard in this first year of our triennium to bring the Pain Homestead and Cottage back up to a respectable standard.

All of your current Board members were highly concerned with what had happened to the Estate, after years of bare minimum upkeep, and we promised our ward that if elected, we would be putting our energy toward it’s repair and on-going maintenance, with hope to future proof this valuable, historic amenity for the Children of Martinborough. … Continue Reading

Community Garden News

Well we have certainly faced plenty of challenges in the garden this year, and now the ferocious wind!

Fortunately, most of the broad beans have been well strung up, and we have delayed most of our spring planting. Even the peas have fared pretty well, although the netting has had a bit of a beating.

We have a good supply of lettuce, bok choy, cauliflower and spinach which we will endeavour to have to the Medical Centre Larder early in the week, as well as the usual Wednesday harvest. … Continue Reading

An active toy library

October 15, 2020 October 2020 Comments Off on An active toy library

Where has this year gone? Can you believe we are already in October and Christmas is now less than 3 months away! Thankfully we have moved back to level 1 so we asked everyone to practice good hand hygiene and adhere to the social distancing requirements.

There will be a Community Market fundraiser this month over Labour Day weekend at the Martinborough Town Hall. We aim to have a stall over the weekend to sell some of our much loved toys to make room for some new ones. Our stall will operate on the Saturday and Sunday October 24th & 25th 10am-5pm. For more information on the Market, see www.facebook.com/martinboroughcommunitymarket or call 021 611 035. … Continue Reading

Martinborough Golf Club has tumbled down

The demolition of the Martinborough Golf Club is complete. In the last days prior to Christmas a fully-insulated pole shed, much like a top end farm outbuilding, was erected to act as both office and temporary clubhouse.
